Raigad District, located in Maharashtra’s Konkan region, is a historically and geographically significant area. Bounded by Mumbai Harbour to the northwest, Thane to the north, Pune to the east, and Ratnagiri to the south, it extends westward to the Arabian Sea. Named after Raigad Fort, the former capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the district is known for its dense forests, rugged terrain, and strategic location along the Western Ghats. Home to 2.63 million people (as of 2011), it also features the Pen-Mandwa natural harbor, which seamlessly connects to Mumbai’s coastal network.
